Eli Rivera announces run for Sherriff

Dear Friends and Supporters…

It is with great honor that I announce my intent to run for Sheriff of Cheshire County during the 2010 election.

I’ve devoted over 20 years serving this great community and hope to continue to do so as your Sheriff.  I currently work for the Keene Police Department as a Sergeant assigned to the Bureau of Prosecution, prior to joining Keene I worked for the Winchester Police Department and the Cheshire County House of Corrections.  I am always honored to say that I served this great nation as a member of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Army Reserve. The above accomplishments have allowed me to developed the commitment, experience and integrity needed to serve as your Sheriff.

Why am I running for Sheriff? To serve the People of Cheshire County and continue my involvement with this great community, it’s the right thing to do.

I’ve always believed in civic duty and community involvement, and you will find me involved in local organizations, such as:

Chair of Keene High School Project Graduation
Volunteer for Keene’s NECBL Swamp Bats
Moderator for the Keene School District
Commissioner, New Hampshire Post Secondary Education Commission
Member of the Keene Kiwanis
Keene Elks Club
Member of the United Church of Christ in Keene
Several Booster Clubs at Keene High School
Volunteer for the Keene Music Festival

In 2002, I ran my first campaign for an elected position and was honored to be the candidate with the most votes for a position on the Keene School Board during 2002 to 2004, serving as Chair of the Board during part of my term.

As your Sheriff, I pledge to you my committed to work together with the community, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and county officials to keep Cheshire County a safe and enjoyable place to live.

I hope to have your support and your VOTE come November 2, 2010, so that I can continue to serve this great community.  Please, revisit my website to stay up to date on my campaign.

Sincerely,

Eli Rivera

Cheshire Dems Book Group for April

Hello Everyone,

We had a good meeting last night for our discussion of the excellent book, The Age of American Reason by Susan Jacoby. Thank you Harriett for that recommendation.

In April we are going to discuss the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The recommended book is The Annotated U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence, by Jack Rakove. However, if you are not inclined to read that book, just read something on the topic, or the source documents themselves, and come join the discussion. We are going to meet on Wednesday evening, April 21, 6:30 PM in the food court at Colony Mill Marketplace. I hope you can join us. And, we are always looking for suggestions for our next book, from members of the group, or others. Please let me know if you’ve read something interesting that you think the book group might enjoy.
