How to Contact Legislators By Sue Ford

How to Contact Legislators
You may be hesitant to contact your legislators at first, but once you know how to reach them, you’ll feel much more confident in your ability to make your voice heard in Concord!
Do you know who represents you in Concord? Do you want to contact your legislators to make your voice heard on a particular issue? Are you interested in getting a response back in writing? Do you want to reach an entire committee about a bill? Do you want to contact your executive councilor about nomination and contract matters? This handout will take you through each scenario.
All the contact information you need is posted on the New Hampshire General Court Website (www.gencourt.state.nh.us)
If you need to know who your legislators are:

On the general court website, you’ll see a House of Representatives Dash Board and a State Senate Dash Board.
Under each title, you’ll see “Find Your Representatives” and “NH Senate Website.” Click on them.
For the House, select your town or district from the drop-down menu and press “Go!”. You’ll be able to click on the names of your representatives to view their contact information, committees, and biography.

For the Senate, use the left-hand menu to select “Members” and click on “Who’s My Senator?”. After you select your town, you’ll be able to click on the Senator’s name for contact information. The House Representatives from that district are also listed there by town.
If you want to contact legislators directly:
Once you’ve clicked on the name of your Representative or Senator, you will be able to view his or her mailing address, phone number and email. Below that contact information, you will also be able to view voting records, bills sponsored and committee information.
While phone calls and hand- written letters allow you to include a more personal touch with your message, emailing your legislators will get you a response back from them in writing.
If you want a response in writing:
Here’s another way to quickly find email addresses for your legislators and receive a response back in writing
Once you click into the House of Representatives Dash Board, click on “Members Email,” which is listed under “Find a Legislator.”
Once you click into the State Senate Dash Board, use the left- hand menu to select “Members” and click on “Who’s My Senator?”. You’ll be able to click on the Senator’s name for contact information.
If you want to contact a committee about a bill:
If you want to contact your executive councilor:
Visit the Executive Council website (https://www.nh.gov/council/). To view the contact information for each councilor, click on their pictures.
If you want to contact Governor Sununu or Federal Delegation:

Once you click into the House of Representatives Dash Board, select “Standing Committees” in the “Quick Links” dash on the bottom-left side. Click on the committee you are looking to address. Once on the committee page, select “Email Committee Members.”
Once you click into the “NH Senate Website,” select “Committees” on the left-side menu and click “Standing Committees.” Click on the committee you would like to contact and the members of that committee will be listed. Click on the name of each Senator for contact information.
